Childish Gambino – Bonfire

1 11 2011

Childish Gambino – Bonfire:

In tune with the Halloween spirit, Childish Gambino drops an eerie visual for his single “Bonfire”. sic video for Bonfire starts off with Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) sitting in a dark, empty forest with a noose around his neck and concludes with a nothing less spooky twist ending. Press play above and be on the lookout for Camp to drop on November 15.

Homeboy Sandman Speaks On Stones Throw & More (Video)

Homeboy Sandman took some time to sit down with CurrentHipHop.tv and Tru Statement Entertainment recently to discuss his signing with Stones Throw Records and his upcoming projects. Mr. Sands credits producer John Wayne with being responsible for opening up the lines of communication between Homeboy Sandman and Stones Throw Records’ founder Peanut Butter Wolf. The match seemed like one to be made in heaven and from the interview it seems that Homeboy Sandman would agree.
The video also features a brand new track from an untitled upcoming Homeboy Sandman album. The track is called “Rated Ours” and is produced by K.O. Beatz. We would assume that this will be put out on an official Stones Throw release coming later this fall or early winter. It’s a jazzy, laid back beat which Sandman attacks with his trademark wordplay and unique flow. It makes any Homeboy Sandman fan excited to hear more new material. – CurrentHipHop

DaVinci: Feasts, Famines, and the Fillmore

DaVinci: A Fillmore Story from WEREHAUS on Vimeo.
Watch the video. It articulates everything about DaVinci that I’ve been thinking for the six weeks since I first heard Feast or Famine. The Fillmore raised rapper is a man of absolutes. No bullshit. No dance tracks. No crossover attempts. He has knowledge of self and understands his lane. He is aware of the obstacles surrounding him. His first hook hangs like a noose: dope rules everything around me. The rest of the album concerns similarly monosyllabic realities: life, death, friends, fam, past. Every day is no frills.
As he says in the video, he’s not self-obsessed like many of his peers. Consider him a more lyrical West Coast Jeezy or the Fillmore kin to Freddie Gibbs. Feast or Famine is about pitfalls of friend vs. foe, the balance of staying true, the beer, bitches, and bullshit. Sink or swim rap. He wants to be a voice for the people, without the megalomaniac baggage that usually accompanies that. Nor does he need irony or obtuse metaphors, DaVinci stays as low to the ground and blunt(ed) as Jerome Bettis in his prime. The EP is below and highly recommended if you like smart rap music that always comes hard core but never hard-headed.
Another video and the album below the jump.
